A Little Bit About Me

I have two passions in life...music and meticulously polished nails. So, after graduating in 1992 from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, it came as no surprise to my friends and family when I got a stint at Saturday Night Live as the assistant to music coordinator. It was there that I was introduced to a successful music manager by the name of David Sonenberg of DAS Communications and after getting my foot in the door, I climbed the ladder and worked at DAS for over six years co-managing recording artists such as The Fugees, Wyclef Jean & Spacehog.

My work took me all over the world, from frequent jaunts to LA and Miami to various cities throughout Europe. Surprisingly though, the one thing that I never did find in my travels was a good mani / pedi. How could this be? Every girl, regardless of locale, loves to get her nails polished! Why couldn't I find a nice, wellness-minded nail salon? Even in NYC, the only options were the quickie spot with its acrylic and chemical fumes or the oh-so stuffy and expensive spa. Neither appealed to me. It seemed so simple: mesh the idea of these two concepts into one and you would have something affordable, something clean and something healthy!

So, after some serious nail pro research, I decided to jump ship. I got a bank loan, quit my job in music (yes, I know, it does seem crazy) and in 2002, opened Sweet Lily Natural Nail Spa. Sweet Lily has definitely been a labor of love for me. I've withstood the post 9/11 years in TriBeCa, juggled both work and my growing family and held my head above water with what now seems to be our new economy. But my affection for pretty nails, healthy alternatives and most importantly, my relationship with the clients, keeps me showing up to work...even if it means I have to shovel two feet of snow off the stoop to get in the door. Something I inevitably have to do every winter.

Much thanks to all the Sweet Lily devotees for joining me on this journey. I hope you find as much pleasure in your time spent at Sweet Lily, as I enjoy making it a place for those to get a moments rest, a little relaxation and the perfect Mani Pedi!

XO,

Donna
